Q3) Do I need to make an appointment with STA prior to my visit for inspection?

No prior booking is required.

Q4) What are some of the visible checks I can do to get my vehicle ready for inspection?

1. Functioning of all signal & warning lights
2. Check tyres for baldness & side bulging
3. Check function of horns, wiper & washer
4. Check level of brake oil

Q7) How do I have to go about for the vehicle inspection process?

Once you are at the inspection centre, just drive your vehicle into the correct lane designated for your vehicle type. Our inspector will take over your vehicle and drive it through the lane for inspection. You can then proceed to make payment for the inspection at our payment office or cashier booth. At the end of the inspection, you will be awarded the inspection certificate if your vehicle passed the inspection. Otherwise, you will have to return for a re-inspection.

Q8) How long do I have to wait for my vehicle to finish the complete inspection process?

On average, the duration of the inspection process is approximately 7-15 minutes, depending on the type of vehicle.

Q9) What documents do I need to bring for the vehicle inspection?

You have to bring along the inspection notice from LTA. It is mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle when it is due for inspection.

Q10) I am driving an off peak car. What is the inspection procedure required?

All off peak cars are required to do the mandatory vehicle roadworthiness inspection. In addition to that, off peak cars are to undergo the number plate seal inspection annually.

Q1) I am thinking of buying a pre-owned car, but I am worried about the overall condition of the pre-owned car that I intend to buy. Does STA provide any kind of inspection service in that area?

Yes, STA provides car evaluation service for pre-owned car buyers as we understand the uncertainties involved in buying a pre-owned car as often, the true condition of the car is deceived by its exterior.

STA's car evaluation service assists car buyers on their intended purchase of a pre-owned car by providing an independent and expert assessment on the exterior and interior condition of the car. Our comprehensive inspection involves a series of static vehicle checks and road test, offering our customers the confidence and assurance they need on their purchase.

Q2) What is Chassis Dynamometer Smoke Test (CDST)?

CDST is a mandatory test for all diesel driven vehicles with effect since January 2007. It is designed to measure the exhaust emission from a diesel driven vehicle.

Q3) Can I renew my road tax at your centres?

Yes.

Q4) Can I pay my road tax if I did not bring my insurance certificate?

Yes, only if your insurance agent has updated your insurance record to the LTA system. If not, you will have to produce the original valid insurance certificate.

Q5) What necessary documents must I bring along for my vehicle road tax renewal?

1. Road tax renewal notice
2. Valid insurance cover note (Also instantly obtainable from at STA Inspection Centres)
3. Valid Inspection Certificate (if applicable)
4. Clearance Form (for vehicle tagged by LTA)
5. Vehicle Parking Certificate (only for Heavy Goods Vehicle)

Q6) What is the payment mode for road tax renewal?

Payment can be made via cash, cheque, NETS and DINERS card. Cheque payment by post will not be accepted.

Q7) My IU is damaged. What do I do?

You can drive your car to any of our inspection centres to have your IU checked at the following operating hours.

Sun & PH Closed

Q8) Is there any warranty for my IU?

Yes, every IU comes with 5 years warranty from the date of purchase.

Q9) How much do I have to pay for repair or replacement of IU?

The technician will inspect the IU and the cost of repair/replacement is determined on a case-by-case basis. For further enquiries on IU, please contact LTA.
